Description

Dr. Lilian Chen, MD, and Katherine Skiffington, RN, CWOCN, will discuss the multifaceted medical, surgical, and nursing management of complex enterocutaneous fistulas (ECFs). Drawing on their extensive experience, they will provide insights into the latest evidence-based approaches for diagnosing, treating, and managing ECFs from both the surgical and wound/ostomy nursing perspectives.

This collaborative session will emphasize the critical role of a multidisciplinary team in optimizing ECF management. Topics will include advanced wound and skin care, nutritional optimization, and the complex decision-making process surrounding surgical intervention. A Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse will present practical strategies for patient support, including inpatient and outpatient care, patient education, and long-term management considerations. Additionally, we will explore pharmacologic agents that may aid in fistula management.
