Dr. Munro has been a perioperative nurse for over 27 years. She is a practice expert with emphasis on pressure injury prevention. Dr. Munro has been pivotal in perioperative nursing education and research, notably developing the Munro Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Scale (Munro Scale), an instrument implemented globally for improving patient care in surgical settings. She was the 2023 recipient of the AORN Excellence in Perioperative Nursing Award, the highest honor bestowed by AORN. She a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and was also inducted as a Fellow of AORN.
