(302) Prevention of Perioperative Pressure Injuries
Time: 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM
Description
This presentation will share current perspectives from the literature on skin assessment and perioperative pressure injury development, particularly focusing on patients with dark skin tones. While risk assessment is typically the first line of intervention for identifying personalized patient care needs, this session will examine its role within a broader context. We will delve into the impact of pressure gradients, shear, and friction on patient outcomes, outlining effective strategies for prevention.
Participants will also be enabled to identify specific perioperative risk factors relevant to their phase of care. The growing recognition of the necessity for inclusive representation of diverse skin colors and tones will be a key discussion point, highlighting the importance of considering these factors in pressure injury prevention and care practices.
