Rachelle Sideris

Rachelle Sideris has been a nurse for 22 years and is a Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) Specialist at a Level-1 Trauma facility in Long Island New York. She received her Master’s Degree as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist from SUNY Downstate and completed the WOCNEP immersion program at Emory University. She recently completed the post-masters certificate program for adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioners at NYU Rory Meyers School of Nursing.

Rachelle is a WOC specialist for Surgical Services covering neonates to geriatrics.  Along with her inpatient duties, she is also the WOC specialist for NYU – Long Island’s RN - led outpatient Ostomy Clinic. Rachelle has presented at the local, state, regional and national level on a range of WOC - related topics. She is active in a variety of professional nursing organizations, including WOCN®, the NPIAP®, the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET®) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  She has served on the executive board of the former Metro – NY WOCN affiliate and Northeast Region of WOCN.  She is a former President of the NERWOCN. Rachelle is Medical Director of The Youth Rally and has volunteered as a Youth Rally Camp nurse for the past 10 years.

Rachelle’s current work has focused on the early use of convexity, prevention and management of stomal and peristomal complications, and understanding the brain-gut pathway in IBD. Since 2022, Rachelle has successfully led the 551-bed facility’s use of early convexity in all postoperative ostomy patients.
