Clinical Associate Professor

Dr. Kevin Emmons is a Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden, where he has dedicated over 15 years to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, including teaching in the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse Education Program. His work focuses on preparing nurses to care for individuals with complex healthcare needs, particularly those disadvantaged by systemic inequities and facing barriers to quality health outcomes. As a passionate advocate for community health, Dr. Emmons has successfully secured several million dollars in funding as a project director and team member for impactful programmatic grants aimed at building robust community-academic partnerships. From 2022 to 2024, he expanded this mission during a leave from Rutgers to develop community-academic collaborations on the island of Hawai’i, including enhancing a street medicine program for unhoused populations.

Throughout his career, he has held numerous leadership roles, including as an Associate Dean at the School of Nursing and two terms as a Director on the Board of Directors for the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN). Dr. Emmons is recognized for advancing clinical practice by advocating for integrating palliative wound care and symptom management into everyday practice and addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations. His clinical practice history spans acute care, community-based population health, and military nursing, with significant contributions to street medicine programs and care for unhoused individuals. Drawing on his expertise as a clinician, leader, and educator, he served as Chief Nursing Officer for the New Jersey Department of Health’s Field Medical Station in Atlantic City during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Emmons earned his undergraduate nursing degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, a master’s degree in nursing education from Drexel University, a post-master’s certificate as an Adult-Gerontologic Nurse Practitioner from the University of Massachusetts-Boston, and a unique hybrid clinical research doctoral degree (DrNP) from Drexel University. He is board-certified as an Adult-Gerontologic Nurse Practitioner, Certified Wound Care Nurse, and Certified Foot Care Nurse.
