Dr. Edmond Hooker received his B.S. degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. He earned his M.D. degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He then completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Louisville. Since 2003, Dr. Hooker has been teaching in the Department of Health Services Administration at Xavier University. He teaches medical terminology, clinical medicine, and population health. In the spring of 2007, Dr. Hooker earned his Doctorate in Public Health with a focus in epidemiology from the University of Kentucky. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications in major journals, and he continues his research on hospital acquired infections, public health, interdisciplinary teaming, and emergency medicine. In 2020, Dr. Hooker won the Teacher of the Year award for Xavier University. Dr. Hooker continues to work clinically in the emergency department, and he also works for Concentra as an occupational health/urgent care physician. He coordinates the Xavier Has a Heart CPR Program and has trained 10,000 laypersons in CPR. Dr. Hooker has been married for 38 years and has four adult children.
