(408) Palliative Wound Care; Dignity in the Details
Time: 1:10 PM to 2:10 PM
Description
Wound care for those with advanced illness and/or near end of life require a shift in perspective—from pursuing healing to prioritizing comfort, dignity, and quality of life. This session walks through identification of a palliative wound, practical strategies for symptom management, and how to effectively discuss the excepted outcomes for these chronic/non-healing wounds with the patient and their families/caregivers. We use case studies to highlight real-world examples and share tools to sharpen your palliative knowledge and add to your clinical toolbox. We end the session with a conversation of how to care for individuals on hospice - knowing the regulations that impact payment and collaborating with the hospice team.
