(405) An Update on Clean vs. Sterile Technique
Time: 1:10 PM to 1:40 PM
Description
Clean versus sterile technique for the management of chronic wounds was developed in 2001 as a joint position statement from a collaborative effort between the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) (Wooten & Hawkins, 2001). In 2012 WOCN updated based on current evidence. In 2024 APIC and WOCN continued collaboration to evaluate recent literature on the impact of clean versus sterile technique on wound infections. This session will explore current evidence, paradigm changes in evaluation of clean versus sterile technique, and discuss potential research opportunities.
