Description
This session will discuss the metabolic consequences which may occur in individuals living with ostomies. Due to the alteration in absorption of fluids and electrolytes, dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities are common for those with major loss of small bowel. Major long-term complications, including renal failure, can ensue. Understanding how to prevent and treat these potential complications is paramount for the long-term health for our ostomy patients.
